Your authenticity is your superpower.
Imagine a version of you that embodies more of your “highest self.” How might it feel to live as this person; aware and accepting of your flaws and challenges, confident in your strengths, proud of your accomplishments, and able to “show up” more fully for yourself and in your relationships?
I’ve witnessed how self-awareness and authenticity are the cornerstones of a fulfilled and empowered life. Through deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, we can begin to create the space to shift into the lighter and more joyful version of you - one that embraces your worthiness and feels inspired to realize your dreams. Regardless of whether you’re experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, or feeling haunted by traumas from your past, relief from symptoms is possible.
I strive to sensitively help you make insightful connections between past and present, and the areas within that require attention, care, and healing. Through our work together, you can learn to identify these aspects for yourself and transform patterns of behavior that are holding you back. As your awareness deepens, you can begin to witness the positive ripple effects in various aspects of your life – from healthier, more meaningful relationships, to decreased anxiety levels, renewed self-compassion and newfound levels of self-appreciation.
Meet Madeleine Phelan, LMSW
I’m a New York City-based psychotherapist with a focus on life transitions, dating & relationships, self-esteem, trauma, and anxiety. I enjoy working with young professionals, and my life experience has given me a level of understanding as it relates to navigating life in New York as an up-and-coming adult in today’s world.
If any of the following statements resonate with you, we may have success in working together:
“I wish I felt more confident in my social life and when dating”
“I’m struggling to strike a balance between work and my personal life”
“I wonder what went wrong with that relationship? Is there something wrong with me?”
“Why is it so hard for me to assert myself, set boundaries with people, or listen to my intuition?”
“Why do I criticize myself for not being perfect? I’m in a constant state of compare and despair”
“Everything around me - my relationships and my sense of who I am in them - feels like it’s constantly changing. It’s frightening and exhausting”
“Why am I stuck ruminating about traumas from my past?”
Being a young adult in New York City is hard - I see that, and I see you.
I prefer to be active and present during my meetings with clients. Beyond the stereotypic “blank slate” or simply nodding as you speak, I hope to bring value by frequently sharing unique insights, and challenging you to examine feelings and core beliefs that are important and difficult to face.
Through a compassionate and dynamic approach that blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Theory, and the transformative power of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I aim to guide you towards a life marked by self-awareness, authenticity, and fulfillment. Whether you're navigating the uncertainties of dating, seeking balance between your career and personal life, or wrestling with the shadows of past traumas, there's a path to relief and empowerment.
Finding the right therapist is a deeply personal choice. Like any relationship that requires emotional safety, “chemistry” is key. If you think we might be a good fit and want to explore what it may be like to work together, I invite you to book a complimentary consultation call with me.

I believe therapy is an exploratory process, the main goal of which being to get to know yourself as deeply as possible. Together with your therapist, the relationship serves as a container to process your experiences, deepen your awareness, and unlock your highest potential.

The best part of the work for me is seeing clients witness their own progress. Those little moments when they're able to look back and say, “Wow, look how far I’ve come - I would’ve handled the same situation very differently 6 months ago.” I’m always proud of them, but it is even more special to see a client be proud of themselves and witness all of their hard work.

Definitely the Eras Tour. Not only am I a huge swiftie, it was truly incredible to see her seamlessly embody all the different stages of her career (and life) in one extraordinary performance. Talk about authenticity - Taylor’s Eras are all about embracing all aspects and versions of ourselves, past, present, and future.
